Languages

We hope to cater for all abilities and needs by offering our language provision at four certificated levels:

Entry Level
for absolute beginners who want to learn the basics of their chosen language but who want to study at a more gentle pace without the need to take an exam. There will be some classroom based assessment carried out by your tutor. This level is available for French, German, Italian and Spanish.
Progression to Level 1

Level 1
for those who have completed Entry level and beginners who want to work at a faster pace or those with long forgotten school modern foreign languages. Learn basic grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing in the 1st year of our GCSE courses. French, German, Italian and Spanish are available at this level.
Progression to Level 2

Level 2
if you are fairly confident and/or have completed year 1 of a GCSE in either French or Spanish, during the 2nd year of the GCSE course you will revise and practice material learned and extend vocabulary ready to take the external examinations in May/June 2008.
Progression to AS Level 3

Level 3
AS/A2 advanced study for people who have GCSE or an equivalent level we hope to continue with the advanced level A2 Spanish course and the 2nd year of our AS German and Spanish courses.

NB: Homework/revision will be required each week to make the most of these courses and to build your confidence so that you feel comfortable with your ability to communicate in your chosen foreign language.

Your tutor will recommend the appropriate book for the course at the beginning of the class and these can be obtained by students from the local book stores in Alnwick. If your tuition is free, the cost can be reclaimed from the Learner Support Fund.
