For any subject studied at GCSE or AS/A2 level we recommend you arrange to speak to the tutor or Lyn Lock to find out the full commitment before embarking on the course.
You will need to do at least 2 or 3 hrs work outside the class for preparation, writing essays and research. If you are finding a course difficult speak to your tutor or Lyn Lock and we will try to support you. For GCSE English and Maths half hour tutorials may be possible before the scheduled lesson by prior arrangement with your tutor.
Course books can be ordered and purchased by students direct from local stores.
If your tuition is free, hand in the receipt at the community office and you will be reimbursed from the learner support fund along with any travel or childcare costs.
If you decide to
join our GCSE English class
we can offer a FREE national test
in Literacy (level 2 is equivalent to
a GCSE) as a safety net?
Dawn Jordan will help you choose
the right level and prepare you for
a paper-based or on-line computer
test when you are ready.

Cat Steven's melody is echoing around the Adult
Learning Centre in Alnwick. In summer 2006 Philip
Agan (Father) achieved a full A level qualification
in Film Studies having attended AS and A2
classes with our tutor Martin Patterson on
Monday afternoons and evenings.
In September 2006 we thought we were in the middle of a Groundhog Day when Richard (Son) signed up for AS Film Studies to supplement his Year 12 courses at the high school. As you can see there is more than a passing resemblance and Richard has enjoyed the course so much that he also wants to continue to do A2 next year, if he is successful in his AS Film Studies exams taken before the May 2007 half term break.
At the moment we are unable to guarantee a progression to a full A level as part of the 2007/8 programme but hopefully all the factors which affect this decision will turn out positively.
Film Studies A2 will not be available
as part of our programme this year
as Dr Martin Patterson has been appointed to a full time teaching position in the Midlands. We would
like to take this opportunity to thank Martin for bringing his enthusiasm
for Film Studies to our Centre and
we wish him well for the future.
If you decide to join our GCSE Maths class we can offer a FREE national test in Literacy or Numeracy (level 2 is equivalent to a GCSE) as a safety net? Dawn Jordan will help you choose the right level and prepare you for a paper-based or on-line computer test when you are ready. Contact Dawn on 07923 249 303.
If you are interested in this subject we have an introductory course available with Amanda Ford which might be your first step on a route to achieving a GCSE or AS level at a later stage.
